A recent survey from Cartwright Communications was performed to gather data of residents across Birmingham, Derby, Leicester, Lincoln and Nottingham and the outcome was that 63% of the people surveyed consider it important to support local businesses and independant retailers.
The survey showed a small win for retail in an unknown time. There are no shortage of articles, tv programmes and messages stating that the high-street is on the decline. In a lot of ways they may be right but this report shows that consumers care.
Nelson Blackley, a retail research associate at Nottingham University was also reported saying, “the survey confirms that over 70% of respondents visit their local high-street , which is good news for their continued survival and suggests that physical stores and the high street still serve a purpose. “The responses also show that most consumers are keen to support local businesses, which is great for local independent retailers trading on our high streets and in our town centres. There is real demand for those products, services and experiences that consumers just can’t get online.”

As a company with a real over and interest in the retail industry we are so glad to hear some good news. We have been saying that the ‘high-street isn’t dead, it just needs rethinking’ and we feel this article shows that our claims have merit. Consumers trends and habits are changing, this much is true, but the high-street does still have a place. We just need to change our tactics and how we approach it. QueueCheetah aims to play a part in this.
